FieldFactors news update | April 2026
Follow us on LinkedIn for the latest updates.
April was a busy and meaningful month for FieldFactors, marked by a key project milestone, national media coverage, international delegations at our pilot site, and a timely reminder of why our work matters. Here is a look at what happened!
🌧️ Why April reinforced the need for rainwater reuse
April 2026 was exceptionally dry in the Netherlands, adding pressure to already stressed drinking water supplies. National coverage by NRC highlighted the growing imbalance between drought, peak rainfall, and water availability.
This is exactly the challenge BlueBloqs addresses: capturing rainwater when it falls, treating it naturally, and making it available when it is needed most.
🌱 Earth Day 2026
On Earth Day, we shared a simple message: rain is not a problem to remove but a resource to use. Cities, businesses, and individuals all have a role to play. Check our Earth Day guide for what you can do.
FieldFactors and Apria Systems carry out the first on-site system tests in Alphen aan den Rijn.
🇳🇱 GreenLED reaches a key milestone in Alphen aan den Rijn — system testing!
Our EU-funded LIFE GreenLED project has entered its system testing phase. Together with partner Apria Systems, we completed the first on-site tests at the Alphen aan den Rijn installation, with the municipality present to follow progress.
The system combines BlueBloqs' nature-based biofiltration and aquifer storage with UV-C LED disinfection technology, creating a chemical-free solution that allows cities to replace potable water with locally collected rainwater for close-contact urban applications. A major step toward scalable, safe rainwater reuse in European cities.

TKI project partners visit the BlueBloqs pilot site at The Green Village, TU Delft.
🏗️ New project kicked off for collective circular water systems
FieldFactors joined the TKI Collective Circular Water consortium, focused on collective rainwater reuse in residential developments.
The project explores how rainwater can be managed at district level instead of per household, helping reduce pressure on drinking water infrastructure while enabling more climate-resilient housing developments.
Pilot projects are planned in Amsterdam and Haarlemmermeer together with research institutes, municipalities, and water authorities.

📢 BlueBloqs discussed on NPO Radio 1
BlueBloqs was discussed on NPO Radio 1 News as part of the national conversation on drinking water pressure and climate resilience. Reporting from our pilot at The Green Village highlighted how rainwater collection, treatment, and reuse can help reduce dependence on potable water systems, with insights from TU Delft professor Luuk Rietveld.

🏆 I4N Award interview: water scarcity as a business risk
Following our recognition as an Innovate 4 Nature Award 2025 finalist, COO Kieran Dartée spoke about the growing economic impact of water scarcity and the role of nature-based infrastructure in building long-term resilience.
The interview focused on why cities and businesses need to act before water risk becomes operational risk.

🌍 International delegations visit the Green Village
Two international delegations came to our BlueBloqs pilot site at The Green Village in Delft this month:
The Embassy of El Salvador visits BlueBloqs at The Green Village, TU Delft.
El Salvador — The Embassy of El Salvador, represented by Ambassador H.E. Agustín Vásquez Gómez, visited to explore how BlueBloqs could address Latin America's dual challenge of urban flooding and groundwater depletion. The visit coincided with the inaugural Forum for Dialogue on Water Science, organised by a consortium of Latin American embassies in the Netherlands and hosted by IHE Delft.

Hauts-de-France — A regional delegation from northern France, which experienced severe flooding in both 2024 and 2026 before facing summer water scarcity, visited in collaboration with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and Delfland Water Board. The visit reinforced a key insight: flooding and drought are no longer separate challenges, and they require integrated solutions.

💧 Connect the Drops: building the water innovation ecosystem
Our COO Kieran Dartée joined the first network event hosted by our investor Connect the Drops in Gouda, bringing together water innovators, investors, and industry leaders to exchange ideas on long-term freshwater availability. A reminder that systemic change in water management happens not just through technology, but through the ecosystems and relationships that surround it.
